Ghana ranked first in Africa, 23 worldwide as country with best atmosphere for media freedom Ghana has been ranked as the African country with the best atmosphere for media freedom in the 2018 World Press Freedom Index. Ghana moved up three places from 26 last year in the world to 23 in the report published by Reporters without Borders. Published annually since 2002, the report assesses the extent of media liberty in 180 countries, including level of pluralism, media independence and respect for the safety and freedom of journalists. The report took account of violations that took place between January 1 and December 31, last year. The report comes at a time when Ghana is preparing to host the 2018 World Press Freedom Day.
