Commuters using the East Legon tunnel to either East Legon or Spintex can now heave a sigh of relief as the new tunnel has finally been opened to traffic. 

The 8.5 meter wide tunnel replaces the old 4-meter wide tunnel, which caused heavy traffic during rush hours because it could only carry one stream of oncoming vehicles.  

Road users earlier complained bitterly about the massive gridlock there during rush hours and the delay in completion of the new tunnel. 

Following the opening, the usual traffic often encountered from Airport residential area to the tunnel has reduced drastically. 

Due to the expansion in size of the tunnel, oncoming vehicles from either Spintex or Adjiriganor are able to drive through without one having to stop for the other to pass.
