MFWA condemns increasing Police brutalities against journalists

The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) says the attack on a TV3 Journalist by the Police is a worrying phenomenon especially when Ghana is hosting this year's World Press Freedom Day. 

Yesterday (April 23), a Court correspondent of TV3 network was arrested and taken to the Central Police Station for what the Police said was misconduct. 

The Police arrested him for taking videos of suspects after court proceedings. 

Many have raised issues about the said misconduct especially when the videos were taken outside the court, which is not known to be a crime.  

This latest assault comes when dust is yet to settle on brutalities meted out to another journalist with Multimedia by policemen at the CID headquarters following the arrest of National Democratic Congress (NDC) Deputy General Secretary, Koku Anyidoho. 

Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa, Suleman Braimah who has always been against such brutalities spoke via telephone on GBC’s Radio Ghana.
