MoH yet to receive directives on operations of UG Medical Centre

The Ministry of Health (MoH) says it is yet to receive directives on the recommendations made by the sub-committee that looked into the issues concerning the operations of the University of Ghana (UG) Medical Centre.

The sub-committee's report has been submitted to the Chief of Staff for onward implementation.

Head of Communication at the Ministry of Health, Robert Cudjoe, told GBC's Ibrahim Kwarteng that the multi-million dollar facility is not operational because government still needs about six million dollars to get it functioning.

Meanwhile, the Coalition of NGO's in Health is calling on government to immediately open the University of Ghana Medical Centre.

According to the Coalition, it has visited the facility and nothing shows it cannot function.

Chairman of the Coalition, Dr. Gabriel Bennarkuu, said some of the equipment if not put to use will deteriorate to the disadvantage of tax-payers.

Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, Dr. Bennarkuu said playing political football with a major facility, is a great disadvantage to people who need special care.
