18th April, 2018 The Daily Graphic Commends the bank of Ghana, for taking the bold step of asking banks to recapitalize. According to the paper, the directive will sanitise and restructure the operational processes of the banks to be line with global trends and also ensure that the banks survive any depressed economy. The paper is of the view that much as recapitalisation is needed, there is the need for the impact of such exercises in the past to be properly evaluated since it will not only be a useful blueprint to consolidate policy directions in this regard but also further rationalise other tiers of the financial sector. The Ghanaian Times is worried about the dwindling prospects of sports in the country. The paper says Ghanaians have the passion for sports, especially football. Regrettably, it notes that the sporting activity that engenders a sense of bond and unity in the country seems to be dead or taking a nose dive. The Ghanaian Times recollects the period when Physical Education featured prominently in school academic curriculum and taken seriously by school authorities because it was from there that the nation recruited talents. The Times regrets that school lands which used to be recreational grounds have been heavily encroached. The paper expresses worry about this trend. It reiterates constitutional provisions which enjoin the state to promote sports as a means of fostering national integration, health and self-discipline as well as international friendship and understanding.
