Call to religious sect to minimize noise levels lauded

The General Secretary of Assemblies of God Church, Ghana, Rev. Dr. John Ghartey has supported calls by the Minister of Environment, Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, to minimise noise levels, especially by the various religious sects. 

In an interview with GBC’s Ibrahim Kwarteng on our news and current affair programme ‘Behind the News,’ Rev. Dr Ghartey admitted that churches contribute a lot to the high levels of noise pollution. 

He observed that, the situation gets unbearable for residential communities during vigils as residents have to endure the noise throughout the night, a situation he described as disturbing since the ear can accommodate only a certain level of noise at a time.

Spokesperson for the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, has also urged muslims to calmly accept the call to reduce the levels of noise pollution, as it was not an admonition targeted at only muslims, but all who matter, including those who sell musical instruments.

Speaking to GBC's Ibrahim Kwarteng, Sheikh Shaibu called on muslims, not be offended by the suggestion by Professor Frimpong-Boateng.
