First Lady Mrs. Akufo-Addo Appeals To Cooperate Bodies To Support Local Artists To Sell Ghana 

Ghana's First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo has appealed to cooperate bodies and philanthropists to support Ghanaians Artists to showcase Ghana through painting, drawing and other artistic works.

According to her, Art work speaks and reveals the true identity of people in relation to their culture, belief and…..“Art connects to us at personal level”, which help the industry players and the nation economically.

Speaking at the official opening of Melcom Art Exhibition 2018, the First Lady notes:, “I wish to use this occasion to appeal to other cooperate bodies to support our artists, I believe sometimes, a piece of Art work could sell The Country in ways unimaginably”, adding that:, “a good piece of Art work could give pleasure to many who truly appreciate Art”.

The Director of Communications at Melcom Group, Godwin Avenorgbo, in his remarks stated that, The Melcom Art Exhibition is not an event, stressing the point that, “it is a process that will offer opportunities to budding artists to create works that can sell Ghana locally and internationally.

The exhibition will therefore feature as many Ghanaian Artists as possible who by the standards of the industry qualify to show their creativity on a national platform as Melcom has created.”

According to him, “Art is Nature; Art is Beautiful; Art is lovely; Art is Peaceful; Art is challenging Art is Creative and Art is Meaningful”.  

lf Art is these and more then why have we failed to grow it and recognise Art as such, he asked.

The distinguished Broadcaster, went into the history book and mentioned that, “Many years ago, one could walk into a departmental store to admire a piece of art either painting, photography; sculpture piece etc and purchase same as a home or office decor.

There were regular art exhibitions at the centres of Art and Culture that attracted large public attendances and I recall also with nostalgia how many years ago Ghana Industry and Technology Fair INDUTECH, Ghana Trade Fair Annual Exhibitions had stands in Pavilions for Art, Sculpture, Jewellery etc”.

The maiden exhibition powered by Melcom Care Foundation, is to providing free exhibition space for Ghanaian Artists to exhibit their works with the view to generating jobs and promoting Art Collection, Mr. Avenorgbo  underscored,
