Koforidua records overwhelming turn up for TIN registration 

Forty-four people have registered for the Tax Identification Number (TIN), after the launch of the Tax and Good Governance Week in Koforidua. 

A lot of people including commercial drivers and government workers rushed to the Ghana Revenue Authority Office to file their returns. 

The Compliance Enforcement and Debt Management Officer of GRA, Thomas Ogua in an interview with GBC’s Radio Ghana said turn up was overwhelming.  

He explained that the law backing TIN was passed by Parliament last year, adding, it is being enforced for the citizenry to comply.  

Mr. Oguah said the TIN form is free and entreated all workers and businessmen to willingly visit the office to pick copies of the form and file their returns.  

According to him, the law stipulates that without TIN, the Controller and Accountant General's Department cannot pay the salaries of workers and implored them to take advantage of the month long period to register rather than procrastinating to pay a penalty.  

Mr. Ogua said it takes three weeks before the issuance of the TIN after filing the returns. 

He therefore advised individuals to bear with the GRA officials and erase the erroneous impression that they are unwilling to attend to the public.  

He expressed the hope that more people will patronize the exercise.
