Liberia denies allegations of harassing journalists critical of Weah's government The Liberia government has refuted allegations that it influenced the arrest of journalists of a newspaper that has recently been critical of President George Weah. Journalists and editors of Frontpage Africa were yesterday morning arrested by court Sherriffs at the Civil Law Court before a lawyer secured their release the same day. In a story written on their website, Frontpage journalists explained that they were being harassed because of civil lawsuit for actions of damages amounting to more than one million dollars. The suit filed against the newspaper follows publication of an erroneous survey advertisement published in the paper on Friday, 16th of last month. Contrary to the erroneous claims that inundated social media platforms and other news outlets, the legal suit against the entity was one of private nature. A statement issued by the Information Ministry sought to clarify that it had not ordered the arrest of Frontpage’s staff. SOURCE: AFRINEWS ---DECRYPTED---
