Nigerian senator 'busts open' $37,500 expenses payments

A Nigerian politician has revealed that Senators receive 13 point five million Naira or 37 thousand 500 Dollars every month for personal expenses.

A Senator for the governing APC party, Shehu Sani, said there is little accountability about how the money is spent and called for the payments to be scrapped. 

Mr. Sani said these are key reasons why people choose to enter politics.

He said the money is paid in addition to a Senator's salary which is more than two thousand dollars a month. 

They also receive a yearly constituency budget of five point five million dollars.

Civil Society groups in Nigeria have welcomed Mr. Sani's disclosure.
