Elephants shot dead in Mozambique after killing woman

Police in Mozambique have shot dead two elephants in the country's southern Gaza province after they killed a woman and wounded another.

According to the Provincial Land and Environmental Affairs Director, Juliana Mwito, the Police had no choice but to kill the elephants because they had become "uncontrollable" and posed a threat to more lives. 

The elephants are said to have crossed into Mozambique from South Africa's Kruger National Park, a popular tourist destination. 

The animals destroyed many crops, affecting the livelihood of the rural community.
