Ghana likely to lose millions of dollars to illegal bunkering at sea

Ghana may lose millions of dollars to illegal bunkering at sea due to inadequate resources at the disposal of the Navy to patrol and protect Ghana's territorial waters. 

Illegal bunkering occurs when oil is diverted from pipelines and storage facilities on shore sometimes causing accidents and pollution. 

This was among other challenges outlined by the Western Naval Command in Takoradi, when the Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia, visited the outfit. 

The Flag Officer, Commandant Isaac Osei Kufour appealed to government to equip the Navy with the needed resources, especially vessels to protect Ghana's waters.

He said nine arrests have been made so far.
