Gender, Children & Social Protection Ministry to relaunch LEAP next year

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection will relaunch the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) program next year to make it more vibrant and efficient to alleviate poverty totally among the vulnerable in the country. 

Under the new LEAP, beneficiaries who are on the program for more than two years will be taken off for others also to benefit. 

The Sector Minister, Afisa Otiko Djaba, made this public when addressing a day’s workshop for MMDCEs on the LEAP program. 

The Orientation workshop seeks to solicit their support and ideas to help the Gender Ministry to make it more effective. 

She said it is time that Ghana takes its destiny into her own hand and stop going to sister countries for help. 

Poverty, she noted, is a disease and urged the MMDCEs to monitor the LEAP implementation to make the program a success. 

Madam Otiko Djaba charged the MMDCEs to take governance at district levels seriously to support government policies to transform the economy to bring fortune to Ghanaians. 

She further stated that, the ministry will expedite audit on the previous LEAP program to clear all ghost names in the register to enable them enroll more of the beneficiaries unto the program. 

Since she assumed office, she said, beneficiaries on the LEAP program have been increased from two thousand 113 to four thousand 506. 

Madam Otiko Djaba said the Akufo-Addo led government is poised to move Ghana beyond aid where people will be given a hand-up but not a handout and urged all to rally behind them to make this dream a reality. 

About 96 MMDCEs and Coordinators from Eastern and Volta Regions attended the workshop. 

They were taken through LEAP processing payment.
