KMA suspends old Asokwa Member for assaulting Deputy Coordinating Director

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, KMA, has suspended its member for the Old Asokwa Electoral Area, Oscar Riches, for physically assaulting the Deputy Metro Coordinating Director, Abdul Karim during a misunderstanding. 

The decision, which was by a majority votes as against those who asked three months or less, was the Assembly's ratification of recommendations by the Assembly's Public Relations and Complaints Committee, (PRCC) at the KMA's Special General Assembly Meeting held on Thursday. 

According to Chairman of the PRCC, Abraham Boadi, who doubles as Presiding Member of the KMA, in the middle of this year, a misunderstanding ensued among Oscar Riches popularly called Ghana Beye Yie, a Chairman of the Suame Sub Metro Council, Nana Kofi Senya and the Deputy Metro Coordinator over administrative matters. 

The PRCC Chairman said in the heat of misunderstanding, Ghana Beye Yie punched Mr. Abdul Karim in the face while the victim also made certain unpalatable remarks about Ghana Beye Yie in particular and Assembly Members in general. 

A complaint was later made about the  conduct of the people in the centre of the misnderstanding. 

The Presiding Member noted that upon hearing from all parties involved in the matter, the PRCC recommended that while Ghana Beye Yie should be suspended for one year, the Chairman of the Suame Sub Metro Council, Nana Kofi Senya, who is alo a former Presiding Member of the KMA renders a written apology to the Assembly for inciting Ghana Beye Yie to assault Mr. Abdyl Karim. 

The Committee recommended also to the Kumasi Metro Coordinating Director to cause a two- week suspension of Mr. Abdul Karim for the unsavory remarks he made about Ghana Beye Yie and Assembly Members in general. 

Meanwhile, one other Assembly Member has been pardoned by the Assembly for showing genuine remorse for his misbehavior. 

In a related development, another Assembly Member who was also suspended for six months this year will have his suspension ended by December 29.
