Eight suspects in Major Mahama murder case discharged 

Eight suspects out of the twenty-two persons arrested in connection with the death of Major Maxwell Mahama have been discharged by an Accra District court. 

They are Vivian Asahene, Solomon Sackey, Ebenezer Appiah, Yaw Annor, Anthony Amoah, Kwame Adjei, Philip Badu and Solomon Kwadwo Forjour. 

According to the Attorney General represented by the Chief state Attorney Evelyn Keelson, the state has no evidence to prosecute them. 

However, the bail of indictment and summary of evidence have been filed for the remaining fourteen who are going to be prosecuted. 

She said the discharge of the eight is in accordance with section 59 of the criminal code and other offences act, act 30. 

The Court presided over by Worlanyo Kotoku discharged them as represented by the state. 

However, lawyer for the accused persons George Bernard Shaw told the court that the state must compensate his clients, because in his view, since May 19, this year the accused persons have gone through intolerable trauma, trials and tribulations therefore the need for the compensation. 

The Attorney General's representative in response said they are not entitled to any compensation but will respond appropriately when the application for compensation is filed.
