GJA advises Senior Editors to help nurture and mentor young journalists 

The Ghana Journalist Association, GJA is pleading with editors and influential figures in the newsrooms of various media houses to nurture and mentor up and coming young journalists in order for them to produce stories of the GJA standard.

According to the GJA, majority of the stories submitted for this year's awards were below standard, leading to the rejection of a lot of entries. 

This was made known by the Chairperson of the Awards committee Dr. Doris Dartey at a news conference in Accra, where GBC RADIO'S Dominic Hlodzi and Joyce Gyekye as well as GTV's Clara Mlano were named among 28 winners of the annual GJA Awards.

More than 300 entries were received from various journalists and media houses for the 22nd GJA Awards, which will be dedicated to the ongoing nationwide fight against galamsey.

It will be the second time in the history of the awards where winners are announced before the awards ceremony.

Aside the 28 individual winners, six media houses, including GTV as well as  the  state broadcaster's  famous and educative program, Adult Education  will be honoured.

Chairperson for the 8 member awards committee said the committee worked with guiding principles such as a story's impact on society, application of the GJA code of ethics in story presentations among others.

She noted some observations from the committee in the selection process.

Dr. Dartey added that some categories will not be awarded.

The awards ceremony comes off on December 20t, where the categories will be revealed to the respected winners.
