First lady calls for end to female genital mutilation

First Lady Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo has called for an end to Female Genital Mutilation in the country. 

This follows revelations that some communities in the northern parts of the country are still engaged in the practice. 

Residents cross to neighbouring countries with some, devising new ways of using shea butter and hot water to press the cuts of the mutilated girls.  

The First Lady who was unhappy with the practice, called for an urgent and purposeful approach in stopping the practice as lives are at stake.  

She was speaking at the opening of a two-day AU High Level Inter-ministerial meeting on female genital mutilation in Accra.
