Chief justice assures of holistic approach to quality justice

Ghana's Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Sophia Akuffo, says Ghana’s judiciary service will embark on a holistic approach towards ensuring quality justice. 

This involves capacity training for staff including judges, refurbishment and renovation of various court facilities in the country. 

Her Ladyship made the assertion when she interacted with staff of the Bolgatanga high court as part of her two day visit to the region. 

The aim of the visit was to assess the conditions and challenges of the various judicial facilities in the region. 

She expressed the hope a substantial number of the judicial facilities will be completed before her tenure as a Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana ends. 

Further, a program will be put in place to ensure the sustainability of the renovation exercise. The Chief Justice also disclosed that a staff capacity training program will be introduced and challenged judges and court staff to ensure active participation. 

She noted the country’s judicial system will begin to use ICT in its full capacity so as to be able to fast track delivery justice daily. 

She mentioned that the judicial service is short of clear policy guidelines which is expected of modern cooperate organisations. 

Therefore procedures for executing tasks would be clearly outlined and put in place. 

According to her, the judicial service should be poised to meet all legal demands associated with the country’s growing economy, reason why all these measures are being put in place. 

She however, emphasised that after all these measures are put in place, the judiciary will be very strict in expecting the output of staff of the service across the country. 

In this regard discipline, she noted will be strictly enforced. 

As part of the open forum, staff expressed various concerns including their unpaid housing allowances, disability friendly facilities at the premises of the court. 

Before her interaction of staff of the Bolgatnaga high court, the Chief Justice of the Republic inspected uncompleted project within the premises of the high court and the condition of existing ones. 

She also visited districts courts including that of Navrongo, Bongo and Bawku.
