Gov’t will not back down on fight against galamsey - Deputy Lands Minister Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Benito Owusu Bio, says government will not back down on the fight against illegal mining or galamsey. He said destruction by activities of illegal miners far outweigh the benefit to the nation. Inaugurating the Board for the Minerals Commission in Accra, Mr. Owusu said the fight will be sustained until the desired results are achieved. He said Cabinet has approved a total restructure of the Minerals Commission. The nine member board is chaired by Samson Kwaku Boafo a Former Minister of Chieftaincy under the Kufuor’s Administration. Mr. Owusu Bio said the board has been constituted at a time the President has shown political will to stop galamsey. He charged members of the Board to carry through initiatives approved by cabinet, to ensure sanity in the extraction industry. Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources in Charge of Minerals, Barbara Oteng Gyasi charged the Minerals Commission to closely work on the Multi- Sectoral Mining Integrated Project to ensure government's objective of having a streamlined and properly managed small scale mining sector.
