Use leadership positions to mitigate disputes -Chieftaincy Minister tells Traditional Rulers


Traditional Authorities have been asked to use their leadership positions to mitigate, de-escalate and resolve disputes relating to succession in their communities. 

The Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Kofi Dzamesi made the appeal at the inauguration of the Bulenga Traditional Council at Bulenga in the Wa East District. 

Mr. Dzamesi pointed out that the call was imperative because chieftaincy and land disputes are obstacles to progress and development in affected localities because of the havoc and social unrest they cause. 

He said whilst traditional rulers make use of time tested reconciliatory gestures and practices to resolve conflicts, parties to disputes must equally avail themselves of the laid down procedures in the Chieftaincy Act 2008, Act 759, to settle all disputes. 

GBC’s Emmmanuel Mensah-Abludo and Seidu Ibrahim Bomanjo report that Mr. Dzamesi also stated that going by the Act, all legal issues connected to the disputes can be exhaustively dealt with to the satisfaction of all parties. 

The Bulenga Naa, Naa Seidu Nawologime was sworn-in as the President of the Bulenga Traditional Council alongside 18 other members of the Council by the a Circuit Court Judge in Wa, Forson Baah Agyapong. 

Naa Nawologime told the gathering that members of the Council will take a second look the customary practices that are injurious to the people. 

He was very grateful to Upper West Regional Co-ordinating  Council and the Wa East District Assembly for the support in constructing the building housing the Bulenga Trational Council. 

The Upper West Regional Minister, Alhaji Alhassan Sulemana observed that the creation the Bulenga Tradional Council was not to divide the people but to further cement what he termed “our developmental efforts”. 

The Registrar of the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs, John Sullo Babinah observed that chieftaincy is not a one man business and entreated Naa Nawologime to use the appropriate structures to enhance good traditional governance. 

A Member of the Council of State, Sahanun Mogtari who chaired the event observed that Bulenga dear to the heart of the government and stressed the need for a sustained collaboration to propel the growth of the area.
