Media Coalition Against Galamsey wants stiffer punishment against people engaged in galamsey The Media Coalition Against Galamsey is planning to petition the Chief Justice and Attorney General for stiffer punishment against persons who engage in galamsey. According to the Coalition, some judges instead of prescribing the full punishment of between 30,000 to 300,000 penalty units or from 10 to 30 years imprisonment, give far less than that. It cites a recent case where a judge who fined some Chinese GH¢2,400 when the minimum should have been GH¢360,000. In an interview with Radio Ghana, the convener of the group Ken Ashigbey says such lenient sentences are killing the zeal for the galamsey fight. GBCONLINE ---DECRYPTED---
