FIFA U-17WC: Black Starlets glitter in India

The National U-17 football team, the Black Starlets, this afternoon beat Colombia 1-0 in the FIFA U-17 World Cup tournament which started today (October 6) in India. 

A 39th minute strike from Sadiq Ibrahim was enough to seal the needed victory for the Starlets. Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin and his charges are definitely poised to clinch gold for Ghana.

One of the finest cut in crosses from Black Starlets captain Eric Ayiah put Sadiq Ibrahim in a deep thinking mood as he landed right on the cross and slotted it accurately into back of the net to the far post for a 1-0 half-time lead.

The frustrated Colombians struggled to find the equaliser after the break; with their best chance coming their way but the Colombian winger jersey number (7), Leandro Campaz and colleagues blew all away.

Officials on the day did a great job as they stamped their authority in the game as centre referee Turpin Clement issued only a single yellow card to Eltilso Martinez of Colombia in the entire duration.

Coach Orlando Restrepo will go back to the drawing board as he prepares to take on host nation India in their next game.

The two time world champions Ghana will take on the United States of America in their next Group A game on Monday at 11:30am.

In the other group B match opener, New Zealand drew 1-1 with Turkey, New Zealand marks man max mata was shown a second yellow to take a late shower after scoring for his country.

Host nation India were white washed by United States of America 0-3, goals from Joshua Sargent through a penalty on the 30th minute mark, Chris Durkin on the 51st minute and finally Andrew Carleton sealed the victory on the 84th minute mark. U.S.A will now go top of the group A table with goal difference ahead of Ghana. 

On the other hand in Group B, Africa champions Mali also lost by 3 goals to 2 dashing the hopes of Africa, but as one may say its early days yet. 

Mali will take on Turkey in match day four (4) at 11:30 am while Paraguay takes on New Zealand.
