Government urged to increase budgets for Public Libraries The Acting Executive Director of the Ghana Library Authority, Mrs. Rebecca Akita, has urged government to have the political will to increase the budgets of the country’s public libraries, while Heads of Academic and Research Institutions commit at least 10 per cent of their budgets to improve their libraries. According to her, the provision of the necessary support to libraries by the Central and Local governments will be part of their contribution to national economic transformation. Mrs Akita made the call at the launch of the 5th Annual Library and Information Week celebration, in Kumasi. The week’s celebration is under the auspices of the Ghana Library Association dubbed: “Libraries - Transforming Ghanaian Economy”. GBCONLINE ---DECRYPTED---
