HIV On The Rise In Sunyani Zone -Sentinel Report

Records from the Bono-Ahafo Regional Health Directorates indicates that Sunyani has recorded the highest prevalent rate of 4.2 percent among pregnant women in the region.  

Kintampo on the other hand recorded lowest rate of 0.3.
  
This according to the Regional HIV Coordinator, Emmanuel Obeng Hinneh is attributed to people not acting on HIV and AIIDS Prevention education by health directorates. 

Mr. Hinneh was speaking during an interview with the GBC in Sunyani. 

"This year the HIV/AIDS Sentinel Report had the Bono-Ahafo Region coming in as the Region with second highest AIDS  Prevalence Rate in the Country. We consequently sought to find out steps being taken to improve the situation."  

Interacting with the Bono-Ahafo Regional HIV Coordinator, Emmanuel Obeng Hinneh, he revealed that the region has been zoned into four, namely Kintampo, Sunyani, Wenchi and Asunafo sites. Among these zones the Sunyani Site has the highest HIV/AIDS prevalence.  

The Regional HIV Coordinator further said Sunyani Site has always recorded the highest prevalent rate.  

He said initially there were hopes that it will reduce early this year, but on the contrary it has rather increased from 3.8 to 4.2 percent among pregnant women compared to last year. 

He disclosed that as at now, the prevalent rate in Sunyani is 4.2, Wenchi is 2.8, Asunafo, 3.0 and Kintampo, with the lowest HIV prevalent rate of 0.3 percent.  

He however, added that Asunafo is a must watch area, since it is currently has the second highest prevalent rate. He said measures have been put in place to improve the situation.  

He also appealed to the government and other institutions to support the Anti HIV/AIDS effort with more resources to facilitate  more awareness creation.

Mr. Hinneh advised the public to abstain from unhealthy sexual activities and pleaded for more social platforms for public education on HIV.
