Gov't Lays Special Prosecutor Bill Before Parliament Today

Government has laid the Office of the Special Prosecutor Bill 2017 before Parliament today. 

Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice Joseph Dindiok Kpemka laid the Bill on behalf of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice. 

The Bill which seeks to establish the Office of the Special Prosecutor forms part of government’s drive to fight corruption and abuse of public office. 

The Office will be a special agency with the mandate to investigate specific cases of corruption involving public officers and politically exposed individuals in the discharge of their functions as well as persons in the private sector implicated in the commission of corruption. 

The Office will prosecute these offenses on the authority of the Attorney General and other related matters. 

The Speaker of Parliament Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye referred the Bill to the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee for consideration and report after it was read for the first time.

The Zongo Development Fund Bill 2017 was also laid by the Minister for Zongo Development and Inner-Cities Abu-Bakar Saddique Boniface. 

The Bill when passed will set up the Development Fund which will be used to finance the development programs in Zongo Community and Inner Cities across the country. 

The Bill will establish the Fund as an authority wholly own by the government of Ghana to provide financial resources for investment in education, infrastructure and businesses to develop and transform the social and economic conditions of zongo communities. 

The Speaker Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye referred the Bill to the Committee on Local Government and Rural Development for consideration and report back to the Plenary.
