President Akufo-Addo inaugurates New Police Council

President Akufo-Addo has inaugurated a ten member Police Council to be chaired by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia. 

The Police Council among other things is to advice government on the activities of the Service, conditions of service, promotions, pensions and gratuities.

President Akufo-Addo challenged the Council to work assiduously to redeem the image of the Service. 

The President announced that two new Police hospitals will be established in Sunyani and Bolgatanga. 

President Akufo acknowledged the important role of the police service in ensuring the peace and safety of the country.

He said maintaining law and order is critical especially at the moment where there is an upsurge in lawlessness. He tasked the service to redeem its image as law enforcers. 

President Akufo-Addo outlined his vision for the service.

The Chairman of the Police Council, Vice President Dr Bawumia pledged their commitment to the 5 year strategic plan of the service. He announced that a fund will be set up to cater for the personnel of the police service. 

The members of the Council are the Minister for the  Interior Ambrose Dery,  Justice and Attorney General, Gloria Akufo, Inspector General of Police, David Asante Apeatu and Justice Kusi-Minka Premo of the Ghana Bar Association.   

The rest are COP Kwasi Nkansah, representing the Retired Senior Officers Association, COP James Oppong- Boanuh, for Senior Rank Officers of the Ghana Police Service, Inspector Richard Wetteh Weiking, for Junior rank officers  and two Presidential nominees, Hadih Alhassan Bin Salih and Cecilia Eguaku.
