President Akufo-Addo Hosts Senior Citizens To Luncheon

President Akufo-Addo has charged senior citizens to join his fight against correcting societal ills. 

The President made the call when he hosted Senior Citizens to a luncheon at the State Banquet hall in Accra to mark Ghana's 57th Republic Anniversary.  

President Akufo-Addo, who touched on a wide range of issues asked the senior citizens to speak out and be frank with him as government makes effort to build a modern society. 

He promised the aged free ride in public transport.

Republic day, which by convention has become the Senior Citizens Day is used by the President to dine with the aged and show appreciation for the sacrifice made in building Ghana. 

President Nana Akufo-Addo and his vice, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia took time to exchange pleasantries with all the invited guests. 

The President personally thanked them for their effort in shaping Ghana. 

President Akufo-Addo said he is looking forward to building a new Ghana which will not be dependent on aid and handouts and will be governed by the rule of law, respect for human rights and the principle of democratic accountability. 

He said the new Ghana can only be effectively  built on advice from the senior citizens. 

He asked them not to be praise singers but be frank with him.
                          
President Akufo-Addo outlined some policies the government is rolling out to help the aged.
                          
On behalf of the senior citizens, a retired Director of Social Welfare, Mary Amudu was grateful to the President for hosting them. 

She said they are ready to put their expertise at the disposal of government.
