Disrespect for Zebra crossing, worrying situation for road users

Road markings form an important part of the road infrastructure. Road users depend on them for safety.

However, the road in front of the State Broadcaster, GBC, poses a major risk to pedestrians because of the absence of the necessary markings.

The road was recently asphalted without any zebra crossing and speed ramps, making drivers to speed without restrictions.

This is in spite of the number of people who cross that stretch of the road on daily basis. The situation becomes even more dangerous because school pupils also cross that road daily. 

A number of pedestrians have been knocked down and killed trying to cross the road. 

So what was the reason behind the decision to upgrade the road without safety measures?
