Woman shot dead at Alavanyo Kpeme in Volta Region A middle-aged woman has been killed at Alavanyo, Kpeme in the Volta Region after gun shots were heard early Saturday. Madam Elizabeth Anku was said to have gone to her farm where she met her untimely death. She was said to be picking mangoes in the farm which is just a 100 meters away from her house. She has since been deposited at morgue for autopsy. The Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa, who confirmed the incident to an Accra Based Radio Station, "Joy FM", said the situation is under control as the security has been beefed-up to forestall any reprisals. He explained that the security personnel had gone on keep fit when they heard the exchange of gun fire. They quickly had to prepare and search for the persons behind the exchange of gun fire. In the process, one woman was said to be missing but was later found dead in her farm with gunshot wounds, Dr. Letsa explained. The death comes on the heels of a similar exchange of fire which resulted in the death of two persons exactly a month ago. Earlier, the Interior Ministry, on the advice of the Volta Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument, issued a statement to renew curfew in the Alavanyo and Nkonya townships from 8.00pm to 5.30 am. The curfew is to take effect from Sunday, May 21, 2017. The statement issued by the Minister of Interior, Ambrose Dery, said Government continued to express its appreciation to the chiefs, elders and youth of the area for their efforts towards peace. It also urged them to find peaceful ways of settling conflicts in the area. Residents of Nkonya and Alavanyo have been fighting for years over a piece of land. The fight has led to several deaths and destruction of properties. Government reiterates the ban on persons of the two towns form carrying weapons, adding that those who breached the order wILL be arrested and prosecuted. GBCONLINE
