Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu formally outdoors new Asantehemmaa The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, has formally outdoored the new Asantehemaa at a memorial ceremony for his late mother and 13th Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi. The Asantehene used the occasion to also reveal the stool name of the new Asantehemaa which is ‘Nana Konadu Yiadom The Third’. The out dooring of Nana Konadu Yiadom coincided with the 67th birthday of Otumfuo Osei Tutu who happens to be the 16th occupant of the Golden Stool, biological son of the late Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem as well as the younger brother of the new Asantehemaa. Otumfuo Osei Tutu used the opportunity to explain why he settled on his elder sister to succeed his late mother as the Asantehemaa. According to the Asante Monarch, the choice of Nana Konadu Yiadom known in private life as Ama Konadu, is in line with the long standing tradition of Asanteman to consider the eldest surviving daughter of a deceased Asantehemaa as the first option as a successor. Therefore, there was no difficulty in choosing the 83-year old Nana Konadu Yiadom who is still healthy to take up the mantle of her late mother. Otumfuo Osei Tutu for called for the support and cooperation of all especially members of the chieftaincy institution for Nana Konadu Yiadom to succeed. One significant part of the occasion was the dedication and inauguration of the Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem Memorial Royal Ceremonial grounds. GBC
