GJA to hold public lecture marking press freedom day


The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) will tomorrow, Wednesday, May 3, hold a public lecture and flag-raising ceremony to mark World Press Freedom Day. 

The GJA has since 1994 joined the global community in observing the day. 

World Press Freedom Day acknowledges that media pluralism and press freedom are essential to promoting freedom and justice and overall national development.

The day also celebrates the fundamental principles of press freedom; evaluates press freedom around the world, and defends the media from attacks on their independence. 

It again  pays tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the exercise of their profession.   

A statement signed by the GJA President Roland Affail Monney says the public lecture will be delivered by the Minister of Information Mustapha Hamid.
