Ashanti Regional Police Orders Temporary Closure Of Tamale Lorry Station  

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested three persons in connection with the lorry park disturbances in Kumasi. 

According to the Deputy Head of the Public Affairs Department of the Command, Chief Inspector Godwin Ahianyo, the Police has also placed an injunction on the lorry station because neither of the complainants have produced evidence claiming ownership of the station. 

Speaking to Doreen Ampofo on Radio Ghana, Chief Inspector Ahianyo says victims of the attack are responding to treatment.

The statement explained that decision is due to a clash that ensued between persons purported to be members of the ruling NPP and those of the opposition NDC who were claiming ownership of the said lorry station.

Three persons have been arrested to assist in investigations whilst four others sustained injuries during the clash and were taken to the Manhyia District Hospital for treatment.

The statement noted that, in response to the problem, the Police have taken full control of the said Tamale Lorry Station. 

It entreated prospective passengers who intend to travel to Tamale to find an alternative Tamale Station to board vehicles since the original Station is not in operation.

The Command warned to deal with any individual or group which would still try to go and claim ownership of the disputed lorry terminal in accordance with existing laws.

It has therefore asked any person or group which has any issues concerning ownership of that station to rather go to the courts to seek redress since the police will not tolerate any acts of lawlessness and hooliganism within the Kumasi metropolis.
