Ghana Aids Commission adopts strategic plan to end HIV/AIDS

The Ghana Aids Commission has adopted a five year strategic plan aimed at paving realistic ways of achieving the global target of ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic by 2030. 

The plan, dubbed 90-90-90, is between 2016 and 2020, and requires that 90 percent of people living with HIV know their status by 2020; 90 percent of HIV/AIDS infected people are on sustained anti- retroviral treatment and 90 percent of those on treatment attain suppressed viral load.

The Director General of the Ghana Aids Commission, Dr. Angela El Adas announced this at the 12th Partnership Forum and Business Meeting in Accra. 

She called for support from stakeholders to enable the Commission to achieve its target. 

GBC’s George Asekere and Pearl Ollennu report that currently 82,199 HIV/AIDS patients are on treatment out of a figure of 264,660 people living with the disease in the country.
