Minister tasks Security Agencies in Northern Region not to drop guard The Minister of the Interior, Prosper Bani, has tasked the security agencies in the Northern Region to be more vigilant to complement the necessary security measures put in place by government to strengthen the peace in the area. He said there is the potential for a revival of the violence in the Northern Region especially in this year’s elections as a result of the volatile nature of the region and charged them to be alert to face any eventuality. Mr. Bani said this when he visited various security agencies in Tamale to assess their preparedness for this year`’s elections. He advised them to engage stakeholders in their preparation for the elections to keep them abreast of times. The Inspector General of Police, John Kudalor assured the regional elections Task force that, its request for logistics to facilitate operations will be attended to. The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ken Yeboah, lamented the lack of adequate personnel to provide security for DCE's in the Region, saying, staff challenges prevent this. DCOP Yeboah said two police personnel will be stationed at each identified flash point while one will provide security at peaceful areas. DCOP Yeboah added that, transportation to send ballot boxes on time to election centres is a major problem pointing out that, private vehicles are used for most of such exercises. GBC
