PPP’s case against Electoral Commission over filing fee adjourned

An Accra High Court has adjourned to Friday, the October 7, hearing of the suit filed against the Electoral Commission by the Progressive People's Party, PPP. 

This was because the Attorney General failed to appear in court. 

The court has therefore ordered that the AG should be served with a copy of motion filed by the EC requesting an abridgement of the time set for the hearing of the suit against it. 

The EC wanted the suit to be heard on an early date which is October 6. The PPP did not oppose the motion filed by the Commission. 

The hearing however suffered a setback because of the failure of the AG to appear in court even though there was evidence that it has been served with the process. 

The suit was originally scheduled to be heard on the 11th of this month but the EC claims that will cause a possible delay in its operations which might affect the conduct of the 2016 general elections. 

The National Chairman of the PPP, Nii Allotey Brew Hammond expressed disappointment at the failure of the AG to appear in court.

The Policy Adviser of the PPP, Kofi Asamoah Siaw said PPP's interest is not to delay the electoral process. 

He reiterated that the filing fee is not covered by regulation.
