Parliament defers voting on clause in RTI Bill

Parliament has deferred voting on a clause in the Right to Information Bill due to fears that it could lead to a possible abuse of exemptions in the bill. 

The deferment will thus allow the relevant committees to fine-tune it before it is brought back again for voting.

The area of contention is clause 5 which deals with information relating to the office of the President and Vice President. 

The First Deputy Speaker, Ebo Barton Odro was compelled to defer the debate on the clause to allow it to be rephrased to reflect the sentiments of the house after members were torn over whether or not to allow that information to be classified.
