Dead employee of Lands Commission withdraws GH₵20k salary The Public Accounts Committee, PAC, has expressed shock as to how a dead employee of the Lands Commission was about to withdraw salaries amounting to GH¢20,000.00 for two years. PAC at its sitting Tuesday to consider the Auditor-General's reports for December 31, 2011, 2012 and 2013 said the Commission was not doing good reconciliation hence its inability to discover that the employee had passed on and continued to receive pay for two years. The Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission, Dr Wilfred Odame explained that they were waiting for the family members of the deceased staff to inform them about the death of the loved one before they write to the Controller and accountant General Department to stop paying the employee. In a related development, PAC has ordered the arrest of Kwaku Sarpong, an auctioneer who failed to account for the sale of five vehicles of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources in 2010. Chairman of the Committee, Kweku Agyeman-Manu said the auctioneer be reported to the Police for the necessary action to be taken. But he expressed disappointment at the Ministry's inability to retrieve the money and issued a two week ultimatum to them to retrieve the money or have the officer in charge surcharged. The Ranking member of the PAC, Alhaji Abubakari Dey and Member of Parliament for North Dayi, George Loh also accused the ministry of conniving with the auctioneer to dupe the State. Daily Heritage
