Ghana Irrigation Development Authority appeals to government to protect its land 

The Ghana Irrigation Development  Authority, GIA, has appealed to government to come to the aid of the Authority to protect its lands at Dawhenya from encroachers. 

It said  individuals, fulani herdsmen and estate developers in particular have massively encroached on its lands at the rice project at Dawhenya. 

Fulani headsmen with about one thousand herds of cattle are destroying the rice which is currently at the developing stage. 

According to the Director of Project Development at the GIA, Engineer Stephen Maclean, the Authority's desire to create another dam for the rice project has become a mirage due to the challenge. 

He said failure to stop the encroachment will have dire consequences for Ghana's rice industry.
