Vodafone launches 321 Public Information Service
 
Vodafone Ghana Foundation has launched a “321” Service to allow the public access news, information on family planning and public health, land titles, agriculture, microfinance, weather forecast, water and sanitation.  

Nana Yaa Ofori Koree, Manager of Vodafone Ghana Foundation and Sustainability speaking at the launch in Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region said the Service is essentially to bring important public service information to everyone for free.

She said subscribers could dial 321 or *321# to access public service information in Twi, Ga, Ewe, Hausa and English anytime, anywhere and free of charge to enjoy the service.

She noted that Vodafone 3 21 is Ghana’s first free on-demand information service, accessible on simple mobile phones for isolated people in emerging markets.

“What this means is that whether you are using a Smartphone or a normal handset and whether you are in a city or village, you can access the wide range of 321 services in your local language.

“In my opinion, the greatest contribution telecommunications technology has brought to mankind is its ability to empower firms, families, and individuals to get up to date information using fewer resources,” she said.

Nana Koree said it is appropriate for Vodafone’s customers to receive updates on latest trends and information in an age where technology is practically dictating every facet of individual lives.

Ms Sally Hughes, Regional Director of Human Network International in West and Central Africa, a technology support non-governmental organisation said, the body decided to partner Vodafone in the 321 Service to offer every Ghanaian free access to information.

“We have been working with Vodafone for some time now to bring this service to the fingertips of the ordinary Ghanaian so that internet access cannot be a barrier of accessing of news to some people,” she said.

Nana Abore Yamoah, Chief of the Gomoa Fetteh traditional area speaking at the launch said “the town appreciates Vodafone for launching such an initiative in this community and not any other place”.

He noted that it is his expectation that the Service becomes very helpful to the entire nation including residents of Gomoa Fetteh.
