NMC works towards professional electoral reportage 

The National Media Commission (NMC) is to engage media owners as part of measures to create the right atmosphere and standards for peaceful and issue-based elections in November.  

According to the chairman of the Commission, Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng, the key to successful electoral coverage is professionalism.  

Media practitioners must therefore not compromise this basic requirement in the run-up to the elections. 

Mr. Apenteng made this known on our current affairs programme "FOCUS".

The President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Affail Monney said the media must be careful not to fan any flame of conflict as political campaign messages are churned out, for the sake of national peace.  

He stressed that the media`s sense of professionalism should be of the highest standards.

For his part, the President of the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association, GIBA, Akwasi Agyeman called for broad-based discussions on the airwaves as practitioners guard against what he calls, poisonous talk that may lead to chaos as the general election approaches.
