Korle-Bu Polyclinic gets ICT equipment


The National Information Technology Agency, (NITA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication as part of efforts to enhance e-Health delivery in Ghana has presented ICT equipment to the Korle-Bu Polyclinic.

This is to help with the provision of infrastructure and equipment that would enhance the full implementation of the e-healthcare delivery to the people.

The equipment presented includes 21 Dell OptiPlex 9020-2, 21 monitor EI916HV, 21 Elitepro UPS650 VA, 2 colour LaserJet PRO MFP M476 dn printers and 5 colour LaserJet PRO MFP M176n.

Mr Felix Kwakyi, Deputy Minister of Communication, noted that government is fully aware and appreciates the transformational role that ICT play in enhancing life and access to good healthcare hence the undertaking of a number of projects to improve the sector.

The e-Health Solution is a comprehensive enterprise level Hospital Information Management System, Radiology Information System, Picture Archiving and Communication System for managing the automation needs of every segment in the healthcare environment and delivery chain.

Mr Kwakyi added that the initiative would allow for a Wide Area Network connectivity, Local Area Network cabling, deployment of IT equipment, Tele medicine solution, which is capable of both retrieving and disseminating patient-specific data (clinical and financial) across the entire health enterprise.

He said NITA would facilitate the development and maintenance of national e-health standards and the delivery of specific national e-health infrastructure foundations; including the establishment and implementation of national e-health solution compliance testing and certification.

He therefore urged the hospital administration to constantly learn to be able to sustain the adaption of technology to achieve the objective of health delivery at Korle-bu and champion the promotion and deployment of e-Health solutions.

Mrs Veronica Boateng, Director IT Application NITA added that this would enable the various departments of Korle-Bu to interact effectively and aid to transform government administration to enhance transparency, accountability in governance.

Under the pilot project, so far more than 150 desktop computers have been distributed to the three pilot Hospitals- Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Wa Regional Hospital and Zebilla District Hospital and built the capacity of staff to be able to implement the solution.
