East Gonja District Assembly and NADMO present relief items to affected rainstorm victims

The East Gonja District Assembly in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has presented relief items worth thousands of Ghana cedis to more than one thousand people who were affected by severe rainstorm last week at salaga. 

The items included 100 packets of roofing sheets, 200 student mattresses, 200 mosquito nets, 100 plastic buckets, three bales of used clothing, and learning materials. 

The MP for Salaga South, Alhaji Ibrahim Dey also presented 500 bags of cement and 100 packets of roofing sheets to alleviate the plight of the victims.  

The East Gonja District Chief Executive, Mohammed Amin Lukman who presented the items to the victims reiterated the need for the people to plant more trees to serve as wind breaks. 

He also advised them to always obtain building permits from the Assembly and also seek technical advice for proper construction of their buildings. 

The District NADMO Coordinator, Alhaji Umar Alhassan said the items presented are what the Assembly and NADMO have been able to acquire to assist them for the time being. 

He appealed to the victims to exercise patience and make do with what they have received now. 

The entire Salaga township was thrown into a state of despair last week following a rainstorm that hit the area. 

More than one thousand people were rendered homeless and property worth thousands of Ghana cedis including 187 houses and six institutions were destroyed.
