Black Queens qualifies for Africa Women’s Championship 

Ghana has qualified for the Africa Women’s Championship (AWC), after the Black Queens thrashed their Tunisian counterpart 4-0 in the final round of qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday.

     
The Black Queens advanced to the finals of the biennial competition in Cameroon, with a 6-1 goal aggregate, after  winning the first leg 2-1.

     
A brace from Samira Suleman and two goals each from Portia Boakye and Priscilla Adobea, were all Coach Yussif Basigi’s charges needed to ensure qualification.

     
Suleman, put Ghana ahead in the 27 minutes from a corner kick delivered by Portia Boakye.

      
The Black Queens, though started on a poor note regained their confident after the first goal and pushed for more goals.

     
Four minutes on, Boakye intercepted a pass from the visitor’s goalie Hakimi Marwa meant for Rania Aouina and delivered a thunderbolt from 25 yards which beat the goalie and zoomed straight into the net.

     
The visitors nearly pulled a goal back through Racha Riabi but she missed her target. Riabi managed to win the ball from defender Janet Egyri and raced into the penalty box but her shot missed the goal by inches.

     
In the 75th minutes, play maker Adubea dribbled her way through from the midfield and maneuvered herself through the visitors’ defense to beat the goalie and with seven minutes to end proceedings, Suleman got her second and Ghana’s 4th with a wonderful half volley after beating her marker.

     
Ghana will join seven other countries for the final tournament billed for November 19- December 3 this year.
