AG detects various financial violations in some Ghana’s Missions Abroad

The Auditor General has identified various financial violations in the operation of some Ghana’s Missions Abroad. 

These infractions undermine the effective operations of the Missions. 

The breaches include payment of excess per diem allowances, unaccounted for visa fees, embezzlement of revenues, wrongful payments and non-refunds of money by some Ministries Departments and Agencies.  

These came up during the public hearing of the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament. 

The Committee is examining the 2011, 2012 and 2013 Auditor General’s Report on accounts of MDAs. 

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Hannah Tetteh and some officials from her Ministry as well as some officials from the Ministry of Water Resources Works and Housing appeared before the Committee. 

The Foreign Affairs Minister Hanna Tetteh said a number of Ministries and Departments owe the Foreign Ministry. 

The MP for Abuakwa South Samuel Atta Kyea suggested ways to the Ministry to retrieve its money from the MDAs.

Madam Hannah Tetteh also touched on the five thousand 839 Dollar expenditure on eight stranded Ghanaians in Tehran in 2013 when a Ghanaian Football Agent sent them to Iran under the pretext of getting them into professional football clubs.

That was the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Hannah Tetteh. 

Deputy Minister for Water Resources Works and Housing Sampson Ahi and some officials of the Ministry also appeared and answered questions ranging from ineffective collection of rents, inability to clear some hydraform machines at the port imported since 2010 to assist in the implementation of the National Housing Program, non-collection of a mobilization fee of 24 thousand Ghana Cedis from a contractor who was hired for the construction of drains at Ada and payment of unearned salaries.
