Fresh allegations of sexual abuse by UN troops from Tanzania in DRC


Fresh allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse by UN peacekeepers from Tanzania in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) have been made.

The Tanzanian contingent has been serving with the UN Mission's Force Intervention Brigade, in Mavivi village, in the east of the country.

"According to preliminary information, there are 11 allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse against the Tanzanian contingent in the area, all of them involve paternity claims…The Tanzanian battalion commander has detained implicated contingent members in the base awaiting further investigation" UN spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric.


Investigations by several UN teams into sexual abuse allegations are continuing in Central African Republic.

Teams from troop-contributing countries, as well as the Secretary-General's special coordinator on the issue, are due to arrive in the region in the next few days.
