1st April, 2016 The Daily Graphic commends the National Communication Authority for taking action against recalcitrant broadcasting stations although it was slow in applying the sanction. It says rules and regulations are meant to check people and these must be made to work. The paper urges stakeholders, regulators and agencies of the media to rise to the occasion and caution erring members to ensure that there is sanity in the system. The Graphic calls on the NCA to extend the action to radio stations and other media as well. It says the public and politicians must not see the move by the NCA as a form of victimisation saying the authority must be encouraged to clean up the airwaves. The Ghanaian Times is worried about basic schools especially the private ones that have resorted to camping final year JHS pupils on school premises just to prepare them for the BECE. It says the camping lasts from two to six weeks. To the paper, this may seem well intentioned but it is an opportunity for the schools to exploit parents. The Times' major concern is that most of the schools don't have boarding facilities and so the pupils are compelled to sleep on benches and sometimes student mattresses on the bare floor. This it says has health and social implications therefore the ministry of education and GES must check the practice and protect the future leaders. The General Telegraph urges leaders of political parties not to condone wrong doings. The paper says they should allow the laws to take its course so that when culprits are dealt with, it would serve as a deterrent to others. The call by the paper is as a result of the rampant violence by the youth under the guise of politics. The General Telegraph urges the police to deal ruthlessly with anybody involved in violence, and also endeavour to separate crime from politics and crack the whip irrespective of whoever is involved.
