British High Commissioner to Ghana says political party militias are inimical to democratic principles

The British High Commissioner to Ghana, John Benjamin says the springing up of political party militias in the country is incompatible with democratic principles in the 21st Century.

He said such groups are a threat to the country`s security and therefore urged government and political parties to take steps to disband such groups and allow the security services to do their job. 

The British High Commissioner said this in a speech read on his behalf at an outer faith meeting in Tamale. 

The meeting was organised by the British High Commission in collaboration with the office of the National Chief Imam, the National Peace Council and the Christian Community.
