Importers and Exporters describes Ghana's ECOWAS levy as exorbitant 

The Importers and Exporters Association are still objecting to the imposition of some taxes on rice and poultry saying such levies are rather encouraging smuggling.  

According to a spokesperson of the Association, Sampson Aggrey, the common ECOWAS tariff is not common because while Ghana has imposed twenty percent on rice imports, Cote d'Ivoire's tax is only ten percent, a situation which he said is discriminatory and encouraging smuggling of rice from Cote d'Ivoire to Ghana.  

Mr. Aggrey called for a stakeholders meeting with the Ministries of Trade and Industry and Food and Agriculture to deliberate on tax issues and ensure the growth of local industries.
