Parliament Begins Vetting of Ministerial Nominees



The Upper East Regional Minister Nominee, Albert Abongo says he will pursue the possibility of creating dams to collect spilled-over water from the Bagre Dam in Burkina Faso to check the perennial flooding that the region experience whenever excess water is released from that country.
 
He said the dams if constructed will help provide water for irrigation during the dry season. 

The regional minister designate sated this when he and two other nominees appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament to answer questions relating to the sectors they have been nominated to head. 

The three nominees that appeared before the Appointment Committee were Minister designate for the Upper East Region, Albert Abongo, the nominee for the Ashanti Region, Alexander Ackon and Nii Lante Vanderpuye who is going to the Youth and Sports Ministry. 

They were quizzed on various topics relating to their ministries.
 
First to appear was the Upper East Regional Minister Albert Abongo. The Nominee who told the Chairman of the Committee that he was tied after about two hours of grilling, mentioned poverty and low level of education as the main challenges in the region and pledged to work to enhance the standard of living of the people if given the nod.

John Alexander Ackon who is a current Deputy Minister of Gender Children and Social protection is heading for the Ashanti Region. He said illegal mining known as galamsey and the issue with the Fulani herdsmen are critical challenges that he will do all within his power to resolve.

The Youth and Sports Minister Designate Nii Lante Vanderpuye said he will liaise with all stakeholders to revive the various youth organizations and Associations and ensure that the Youth Training Centers across the country are made to work to the benefit of the Youth. 

He told the Committee that when given the chance to serve in the Ministry he will try to develop all sporting disciplines from the basic level in a sustainable manner.
