Security expert says arrest of 7 people with AK 47 riffles, 16 empty shells of arms is worrying 


Seven persons have been arrested in Danton Daboase in the Northern Region in connection with two AK47 riffles and other undisclosed weapons retrieved from them.

A laptop, which had what Police suspect to be terrorism-training videos of Taliban, was also retrieved from the suspects whose strange movement in the town aroused the suspicion of the residents.

According to the Northern Regional Police Public Relations officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, residents reported the suspicious movement of two of the seven people to the Palace where they were invited.

They then led the two - Mahama Salifu Mustao and Issah Suale - to their residence and the two riffles plus other weapons were retrieved from them.

Reports say a 60-year-old Idrisu Ibrahim Wumpuni, a resident of Lamashegu in Tamale, who went to the palace to plead for the release of the two, was also arrested.

Four others persons who also showed up at the Palace without any reasonable cause were also arrest.

A search on them led revealed some undisclosed number of weapons was found in a sack, she reported.

Speaking to Radio Ghana on the their arrest, an international Relations and Security expert and also a Peace Ambassador for the 2016 elections Irbad Ibrahim, says the arrest by the Northern Regional Police Command of seven people in possession of two AK 47 riffles and 16 empty shells of ammunition is a worrying development for the country especially as the country prepares for the 2016 elections. 

He said what is even more disturbing is the video clips that were retrieved from their laptops which shows the training of international militant groups. 

Mr. Ibrahim said Ghana`s security agencies must be on high alert with the latest development.

Meanwhile, a preliminary investigation has revealed all the seven persons live in the same household in Danton Daboase in the Salaga District.  

They are currently in police custody.
